Victor Glodov, PhD ME

I have got MSME (Dynamics and Durability of Machinery) from Polytechnic University of Kharkov, Ukraine, (1968 -1974). My master’s thesis was in modeling the transient torsion oscillations of tractor’s transmissions. I’ve started my industrial vibration engineering since 1974, working in Design Company of Tractor plant, Kishinev, Moldova.

My main Work Experience in vibration area I have got working in “Typhoon” Research & Design Company, 1978-2001, Nikolaev, Ukraine. It was a great company dedicated to research, design, manufacture and provide the former USSR’s fleet and NAVY with axial/centrifugal fans and air-conditionings any type. There were Aerodynamic & Vibration/acoustics Laboratory (Bruel & Kjaer company instrumentation), Shock-Test, HALT, HASS Laboratories and variety another types of laboratories and departments, experimental and manufacturing shops where I could design, manufacture and experiment any ideas to resolve the customer problems. Working in the Vibration/Acoustic Department as an engineer and later as a Senior Scientist I supplied the designers along all stages of the design and testing with recommendations to provide with stringent requirements on vibration/acoustic characteristics of fans and air-conditionings for NAVY.

My PhD ME thesis (Polytechnic University, Kharkov, Ukraine, 1986) was devoted to the problem in reducing the 3-D vibrations of the reciprocating compressors for NAVY’s air-conditionings: computing predominant exciting forces; setting up precision dynamic balancing its crankshafts with bob-weights; reducing vibrations from gas-dynamic forces and principally non-balanced forces using dynamic absorbers; setting vibration isolators in vibration’s nodes of compressor’s housing. The results were applied in technical documentation. I published 7 scientific articles and have 1 patent on the results of my work:

  6. Glodov V. V., Karamyishkin V. V. “Reducing 3-D Vibrations Hermetically Sealed Piston Compressors with Dynamic Vibration Absorbers” – “Izvestiya Vuzov”-Magazine, Machine-building,-1984
  7. Patlaichuk N. I., Timoshenko A. P., Glodov V. V. “Ship’s Self-contained Air-conditioning of “Neptun-40” – Cryogenic Engineering, Magazine #7,1986.
  8. Patent of Ukraine #3621214/25-06, Glodov V. V., Gidulean V. I. “Piston Compressor’s Vibration Eliminating System” – 1986.

I designed, manufactured and tested extremely effective the ring-type, mushroom-type, flat-spring type, spiral-spring type of dynamic vibration absorbers to eliminate electro-magnetic, unbalance and gas-dynamic vibrations of a machines, such as fans, superchargers, pumps, rotating/reciprocating compressors, Diesel-generators, Diesel-compressors, etc.

I have hands-on experience in precision on-site dynamic balancing of equipment using portable instruments and shop balancing rotors using soft/hard-bearing balancing machines, laser pulley/shaft alignment, resonance testing and eliminating. I have knowledge and ability in diagnosis of coupling and alignment errors in machine trains, identifying damage in rolling-element bearings from the BEARCON Signature Analysis and fault identification using Frequency Analysis. Working in Research Company I performed training of engineers and technicians on precision on-site dynamic balancing of fans and shop balancing of compressors crankshafts with balancing machines.

I performed computer modeling, designed and would like to suggest to customers several know-how variants (up to 10) extremely effective wide-band vibration isolation systems including upper isolators, certain intermediate mass with build-in linear/non-linear 3-D dynamic absorbers (mushroom-type, ring-type absorbers, etc) tuned at the main harmonic frequency and lower isolators attached to foundation. Small overall dimensions, masses! Double effect takes place - dynamic absorbers reduce 3-D vibration of an intermediate mass and supporting structure at the main harmonic, others harmonics are significantly reduced with intermediate mass. This revolutionary type of vibration isolation systems is far more efficient compared to conventional isolators with the same spring rate and could be applied for ships, subs and industrial equipment to protect the supporting structures from vibrations.

Since Aug. 2002 till Feb. 2003 I worked in RPM-Services Co. in Brooklyn, NY as a Specialist in Data Acquisition, Dynamic Balancing, Alignment, Resonance Testing/ Eliminating.

Since Feb. 2004 I work in American Ship Repair Company, Inc. in Brooklyn, NY where I am in charge of setting up dynamic balancing procedure for marine pumps rotating systems using balancing machines and provide vibration tests.

I am a member of the Vibration Institute http://www.vibinst.com and participate in its Discussion Zone.
